Different Alternatives to Improve ByPass Road.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is putting together a study to evaluate alleviating the impact of rock falls on ByPass Road from the Chloe Creek Road intersection to the Ferguson Creek Intersection and to improve traffic flow at the Chloe Creek Road intersection and Summitt Drive.
The purpose of the meeting was to present preliminary findings and gather input on a solution.
The following is a list of different ideas and the cost.

Authorities Make Several Drug Arrests Thursday Throughout Eastern Kentucky
An 18 month investigation into the illegal purchase of prescription medications or better known as doctor shopping resulted into the arrest of 18 people early Thursday morning throughout eastern Kentucky. The arrests were made by the Kentucky State Police and Operation Unite Detectives.
The charges revolve around trafficking in various prescription pills, cocaine and methadone.

Logan County Woman Found Drunk at Bar With Child
A Logan County woman was found by police drunk in a bar. You say well that’s no big deal. Here is the kicker to the story. When Chapmanville police arrived at the bar, they allegedly found 35 year- old Rhonda Dingess, had a two year-old child with her. She was arrested and charged with child neglect.

Officials with Highway District 12 to Hold Public Meeting Thursday Night In Pikeville.
Officials with Kentucky Highway District 12 will host a public meeting tonight from 5pm – 7pm at the Pikeville fire Station’s training center located on Chloe Road.

Letcher County Sheriff Deputy Found Dead.
The state medical examiner will perform an autopsy on a Letcher County Sheriff Deputy that was found dead inside of his apartment.
The body of 33 year - old Logan Clemons was found Wednesday morning. The Kentucky State Police is handling the investigation. They don't suspect foul play was involved.
Clemons was a three year veteran of the Letcher County Sheriff's Department.

Freeburn Woman Pleads Guilty to Wanton Endangerment.
A Freeburn woman pleaded guilty in Pike County Circuit Court to one count of first – degree wanton endangerment.
The Pike County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office will recommend that Darlene Scherpinstas serve three years of prison time.

Stopover Woman to Serve Five Years on Drug Charge.
A Stopover woman entered a guilty plea in Pike County Circuit Court. Judina Blankenship pled guilty to one charge of being in possession of a controlled substance, first – degree.
The commonwealth will recommend that Blankenship serve five years in prison and also serve five years of probation.

Two Pike County men entered a guilty plea in Pike County Circuit Court. David Bentley of Dorton and Bruce Baker of Myra pleaded guilty to theft of a fuel tank.
The Pike County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office is recommending a prison sentence of three years for Bentley and a five year prison sentence for Baker. The Myra resident was charged also with being a persistent felony offender.

A Pike County man pleaded guilty to one charge of first – degree possession of methadone. Robert Caines of Varney entered the guilty plea in Pike County Circuit Court.

Pikeville Man Admits to Burglarizing Two Homes.
A Pike County woman pleaded guilty in Pike County Circuit Court to two counts of burglary. According to the Pike County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Daniel Meade of Pikeville admitted that on November 28th, 2006 that he broke into two homes.

A Stopover woman pleaded guilty to drug trafficking. According to the Pike County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, 69 year – old Thelma Wolford was found in possession with cocaine, marijuana and hydrocodone at her residence. The commonwealth is recommending Wolford to serve five years in prison.

Luallen Wins Big in Eastern Kentucky
Democrat Crit Luallen was successful in a re- election bid for the office of State Auditor, the democrat routed republican Linda Greenwell 591,999 to 408,722 with 99 percent of the votes counted.

Luallen Wins State Auditor's Race.
Democrat Crit Luallen won another four years in office as State Auditor as the democrat defeated Republican Linda Greenwell. Luallen held a commanding 29.2 percent lead with 93 percent of the votes counted.
Conway Captures Attorney General Race.
Republican Jack Conway will be Kentucky’s next Attorney General. The democrat from Jefferson County beat republican Stan Lee. Conway held a 21.6 percent lead with 93 percent of precincts reporting
Grayson Captures Another Four Year Term
Republican Trey Grayson was re-elected as Secretary of State as the incumbent defeated Democrat Bruce Hendrickson. Grayson holds a 14 percentage point lead over his opponent with 97 percent of the votes counted.
Farmer Wins Re-Election
Republican incumbent Ritchie Farmer easily won a second four – year term as he easily defeated Democratic challenger David Lynn Williams in the Commission of Agriculture race. Farmer garnered 63.9 percent of the vote compared to Williams’ 36.1 percent with 93 precent of precincts reporting
Hollenbach Wins Treasurer's Race.
Democrat Todd Hollenbach easily defeated Republican Melinda Wheeler. With 93 percent of precincts reporting Hollenbach held a commanding 15.8 percent lead over the republican.
Hollenbach had 57.9 percent of the vote compared to 42.1 percent for Wheeler.

Beshear Defeats Fletcher.
Steve Beshear will become Kentucky's 61st governor as the Democratic challenger easily defeated Incumbent Ernie Fletcher. With 83.5 percent of the precincts reporting Beshear held a 59.4% - 40.6% lead.
Voter turnout was very light as only 31 % of registered voters went to the polls.

It was no surprise as Steve Beshear Democratic challenger for governor carried Pike, Martin, Johnson and Letcher counties.
Beshear collected 71 percent of the vote in Pike, 56 percent in Martin, 54 percent in Johnson and 71 percent in Letcher .

Eastern Kentucky Man Sentenced to 16 Years.
A Floyd County man was sentenced to 16 years by Floyd County Circuit Judge Danny Caudill.
Donald Bentley was charged with first, second and third degree trafficking of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and being a persistent felony offender

Host of the Longest Running Radio Show Passes Away
Pike County lost a beloved friend Tuesday morning. Our very own Sunshine Girl Lucile Smith passed away at the age of 90.
Smith touched so many lives around the region. She will be best known as being the host of the longest running radio show in the nation, “ The Personal Touch”, which originated on WPKE- AM in April of 1964. “The Personal Touch” was expanded to 1400 – WBTH, and 1360 – WEKB Elkhorn City.
Two years ago Smith was honored with the Golden Mic Award from the Kentucky Broadcasters Association. The Golden Mic is the highest award that a Kentucky broadcaster can achieve.
Smith was a retired post master from the Pikeville Post Office.
In May she was honored as a distinguished alumnus from Pikeville High School.
She also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

According to the Kentucky State Police, Chasity Lawson is wanted by the Kentucky State Police, she is charged with theft by unlawful taking over $300.00 and forgery. The crime occurred in Floyd County.
Authorities tell us that Lawson is originally from Jackson, Kentucky. But they believe that she is staying in Floyd County.
Chasity Lawson is a white female , 5’5, 160 pds, with blonde hair and hazel eyes.

Delbarton Man Held in Southwestern Regional Jail Without Bond.
Murder charges have been filed on a Delbarton man after he is accused of hitting and pushing an elderly man allegedly causing his death.

City of Williamson Receives Grant.
Senate Majority Leader Truman Chafin and House of Delegates Steven Kominar will present Williamson Mayor Darrin McCormick and members of city council with a check Thursday at noon.
The City of Williamson received funding for $ 7,000 from the Governors Community Participation Grant Program. The funding will be used toward sidewalk repairs along Alderson and Harvey Streets.

Pike County Fiscal Court Meeting.
The Pike County Fiscal Court approved the following measures during Monday’s meeting.
Adopted a resolution to place a historical marker at Liberty. Liberty was Pike County’s first county seat. Liberty is located about a mile and a half from Russell Fork. The first session of the county court met on March 4, 1822.
Adopted a resolution to place a historical marker at Chloe to memorialize both the location of the town of Pikeville and the naming of its post offices, Pike – 1825, Piketon -1829 and Pikeville – 1881.
Adopted a resolution naming State Highway 468 also known as North Big Creek Road in honor of State Trooper Johnathan Leonard. Leonard was killed in an automobile accident last year.
Adopted a resolution expressing the county’s desire to accept the responsibilities and ownership of new bridge over Peter Creek at Daugherty Branch road and Johnson Bottom Road.

Kentucky Attorney General Announces Availability of Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Grant.
Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced Monday the availability of the annual Child Victims’ Trust Fund Grant, which provides funding locally and statewide for child sexual abuse prevention programs to educate children.
Kentucky’s Cabinet for Health and Safety Services found 3,310 cases of reported child sexual abuse last year.
Stumbo is chair of the Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Prevention Board.

Kentucky’s General election is tomorrow. Approximately 2.8 million registered voters are eligible to cast their votes.
All state constitutional offices are up for grabs. The polls will be open from 6am – 6pm eastern standard time.
Les Fugate, Deputy Secretary of State told us that they are predicting that 42 percent of registered voters will participate. 40 percent of voters visited the precincts in 2003. Fugate says that his office is seeing a lot of people voting by absentee.

Majority of People Killed on Kentucky Roadways Are Not Buckled Up
Preliminary statistics indicate that thirteen people died in eleven separate crashes on Kentucky’s roadways last week.
Eleven of the fatalities involved motor vehicles and eight of the victims were not wearing safety belts.
One fatal accident occurred in Pike County.
Through November 4th, numbers indicate that 576 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways. This is 44 fewer than reported for this time period last year. Fifty – seven percent of the victims were not wearing a safety belt.

Location Change for Pike County Veterans Day Ceremony
According to Pike County Judge – Executive Wayne T. Rutherford, the Pike County Veterans Day ceremony has been changed to the Mark V – Landmark Inn in Pikeville. The ceremony will take place Sunday, November, 11 at 3pm.

Road Project to Begin Wednesday in Johnson County.
Beginning Wednesday Highway District 12 workers will start work remove some of the concrete islands in the medians.
The work will impact traffic in Johnson County at the intersection of KY 40 and KY 321. Officials are hoping that the work will be completed by Friday. Traffic will be narrowed to one lane.

Attorney General's Office to Monitor Tuesday's Election.
Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo says that agents with the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation will visit numerous precincts in an attempt to cut down on possible illegal activities during Tuesday’s general election.
Stumbo’s office will work side by side with the Kentucky State Police to monitor compliance with Kentucky election laws.
The polls will open at 6am.

Floyd County Man Indicted on Drug and Firearms Charges
Billy Joe Rogers, a Floyd County Resident is facing federal charges after he was indicted by a Floyd County Grand Jury.
Rogers is accused of cultivating around 50 marijuana plants and being in possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
If convicted Rogers faces up to five years in prison and a $ 250,000 fine.

Perry County Man Arrested While on Federal Probation.
A Perry County man on federal probation for drug trafficking was arrested late last week after police witnessed him selling drugs.
Phillip S. Turner, 51, of Dwarf was arrested by Operation Unite and charged with first – degree possession of a controlled substance. Turner was apprehended outside of a business located in Hazard.
Turner was sentenced in 2004 for selling Methadone, and Oxycontin..

Early Numbers Indicate Successful Litter Collection in Pike County
Preliminary numbers are in for Pike County during PRIDE Cleanup Month. County PRIDE Coordinator Jimmy Dale Sanders told us that 3,063 bags of trash were picked up off the county’s roadways . The work was done by volunteers, county and state workers.
Sanders says that this years’ fall cleanup was the best yet in his nine years.
