Host of the Longest Running Radio Show Passes Away
Pike County lost a beloved friend Tuesday morning. Our very own Sunshine Girl Lucile Smith passed away at the age of 90.
Smith touched so many lives around the region. She will be best known as being the host of the longest running radio show in the nation, “ The Personal Touch”, which originated on WPKE- AM in April of 1964. “The Personal Touch” was expanded to 1400 – WBTH, and 1360 – WEKB Elkhorn City.
Two years ago Smith was honored with the Golden Mic Award from the Kentucky Broadcasters Association. The Golden Mic is the highest award that a Kentucky broadcaster can achieve.
Smith was a retired post master from the Pikeville Post Office.
In May she was honored as a distinguished alumnus from Pikeville High School.
She also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.
Funeral arrangements for Lucile Smith is incomplete at this time.
