Virgie Middle School Vandalized.

Virgie Middle School Principal Donny Osbourne informed us that someone broke into the school sometime over the weekend. Osbourne says that it could have been alot worse , two doors were broken and had to be replaced. The case is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police.

 

Pike County New CTL Member

Pike County has become the newest member of the Coal-to-Liquids Coalition (CTLC), an organization comprised of coal producers, technology developers, labor unions and consumer groups.

“In the future we will be testifying before Congress as we move towards solving the transportation fuel crisis in America, and this organization will give us a stronger base, in that they are located in Washington, D.C.,” said Pike County Judge/Executive Wayne T. Rutherford.

“The CTLC is committed to working with Congress and the federal government to accelerate the creation of a new domestic transportation fuels industry that uses coal—America’s most abundant and affordable energy resource,” said Corey Henry, Vice President of Industry Communications for the National Mining Association.

CTLC members include the Southern States Energy Board, the National Mining Association, the AFL-CIO Industrial Union Council, the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and many other organizations who have banded together to promote CTL fuels not only as a vital tool for reducing America’s growing dependence on expensive foreign oil, but also as a means for creating tens of thousands of new jobs across the country.

 

Update On Boy Found In Swimming Pool In Johnson County

the 4-year old Johnson County boy found floating in a neighbor's swimming poll Monday morning has died in a Huntington hospital.

The incident occurred in Sitka.

 

Another Wheelwright Drug Roundup

A joint investigation by Operation UNITE and the Kentucky Attorney General's Office led to a roundup of suspected drug dealers Wednesday in the Wheelwright area of Floyd County.

The investigation resulted in warrants for 18 alleged drug traffickers. After staging at the Left Beaver Rescue Squad building, law enforcement officers began serving the indictment warrants, while thos arrested were processed at the Wheelwright Police Department.

Officers also set a traffic checkpoint on KY306 in front of City Hall, while other officers conducted "knock and talks" in the area.

 

Break-In At The "Hillbilly Flea Market" In Russell

Police in Russell, KY were called to the "Hillbilly Flea Market" Wednesday morning after the building's alarm system was triggered.

They found 35-year old Dwayne Howard and 45-year old Joseph Conroy...both of Ashland, breaking into a booth. Police say the men had a large quantity of antique coins, pocket knives and burglary tools in their possession.

 

Woman Critical After Collision With KSP Cruiser

24-year old Ashley Angel of McKee was listed in critical condition Wednesday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She has serious injuries after the vehicle in which she was riding collided with a Kentucky State Police cruiser Tuesday evening.

The cruiser was answering an emergency call in Laurel County when the accident occurred on the Hal Rogers Parkway. 26-year old Curtis Angel was driving...he was treated at St. Joseph Hospital in London and released. According to a KSP news release, Trooper First Class Parrish Baker was the driver of the cruiser.

Jobless Rate Up In Kentucky

According to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, between July, 2007 and July, 2008, unemployment rates rose in 112 Kentucky counties...fell in six counties...and, remained the same in two.

Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate at 5.3%. Magoffin County had the highest unemplymnet rate at 11.5%.

Statistics are based on estimates and do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.

 

Convicted Corrections Officer Required To File As Sex Offender

28-year old Hector Antonio Abelar, a former corrections officer at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, was sentenced to six months in prison and ordered to perform 180 hours of community service.

He pleaded guilty in May to charges he repeatedly had sex with an inmate under his ward, from January to May, 2007. He will be eligible for parole after serving 85% of his sentence and will be required to register as a sex offender.

 

Suspect Turns Himself In

The Kentucky State Police are investigating a shooting which occurred Sunday night in Prestonsburg. 29-year old William Wolfe was lodged in the Gloyd County Jail after turning himself in following the shooting of 33-year old Walter Setser. Setser is said to be in stable condition after being airlifted to a Huntington hospital with several gunshot wounds to the lower abdoman.

The incident happened at the B&C Trailer Court.

Food Tampering Incident in Knox County

Joreen Crawford, 27, a Barbourville food service worker, was sentenced Monday to a year of home incarceration after pleading guilty in May to tampering with a consumer product.

A U. S. District Judge in London sentenced her to time served, home incarceration and ordered her to pay $1200 in restitution. Crawford told authorities she placed a metal staple in a batch of meatloaf in January, 2007...hoping a co-worker would be blamed and get fired. A 3570-pound shipment of the meatloaf was recalled.

 

Electric Car Plant Planned For Kentucky

Governor Steve Beshear signed an executive order earlier this month allowing the use of low-speed, three and four wheeled electric cars on Kentucky roadways, with speeds not to exceed 45mph.

He announced Monday the state has authorized a tax incentive plan to bring an electric car plant to Kentucky. California based Zero Air Pollution has scheduled production to begin next year in Franklin, about 135 miles southwest of Louisville. The planned one million square foot plant is scheduled to be built on 225 acres in an industrial park, and, it is expected to bring up to 4000 new jobs within the next four years.

State officials have authorized 48-million dollars in tax credits.

 

Four Year Old Johnson County Boy Found In Pool

A 4-year old Johnson County boy is in Cabell-Huntington Hospital fighting for his life after neighbors found him floating face down in their swimming pool. A 3-year old boy was also standing by the pool, getting ready to get in the water.

It happened Monday morning on Stambaugh Branch Road in the Johnson County community of Sitka. Investigators say the boys lived a half-mile down from the pool, and they're attempting to determine how they got there.

Floyd County Man Pleads Guilty

A Floyd County man will spend 12 months in jail, and 24 months probation .

26 year -olsd David Kyle Robinson of Prestonsburg admitted that he used the internet in an attempt to solicit sex from a 15 year-old girl.

Robinson is also required to stay 1,000 yards away from the victim, however he does not have to register as a sex offender.

The incident took place last year.

 

Recall On Pepperoni Hot Pockets

A recall has been issued for over 215,000 pounds of Hot Pockets Pepperoni Pizza which was made at a plant in Mount Sterling, Kentucky.

Nestle Prepared Foods Company issued the recall last week after receiving complaints from consumers about foreign products inside the stuffed sandwiches. The recalled items were sold in 54 ounce, 12 pack cartons and produced on June 5th.

The recalled products have the following printed on the sides of each carton: 8157544614D, EST 7721A and Best Before Jan2010.

 

Fatal Coal Truck Accident At Southern West Virginia Mine.

West Virginia mine officials say that they are investigating a fatal coal truck accident that occurred at a McDowell County surface mine Friday night.

Thirty –eight year-old Danny Lee Jones of Bradshaw was killed when his rig overturned and rolled over an embankment. Officials say that the victim exited the vehicle while in motion and that the truck ran over him.
Jones was hauling coal from the Double Bonus Deep Mine to a coal stockpile at the surface mine # 39 Job Contour # 2 Strip Mine near Keystone

 

Johnson County Check Presentation.




Fifth District Congressman Hal Rogers presents a check for $16,027.45 to the Johnson County Sheriff¹s Office during a ceremony held on Monday, August 18, at the London Community Center. The money represents the department¹s share of forfeited illegal drug funds awarded by state and federal courts to Operation UNITE as a result of criminal investigations between October 1,
