Jackson County Escapees Captured

Freedom was short lived for three inmates who escaped Friday morning from the Jackson County Jail in McKee. Deputy Jailer Markie Baker says, when he went to check on inmates Wayne Maupin and Billy Farrar, he was overpowered, placed in handcuffs and left inside the cell. He says the men then freed female inmate Judy McQueen before escaping. All three were arrested just hours later without incident. Maupin and McQueen were arrested as they were leaving an abandoned trailer. Farrar turned himself in.

Christmas Eve Accident Kills Floyd County Man

KSP report 30 year old Bryan Tackett from HiHat in Floyd County was killed Christmas Eve in a single vehicle accident which occurred at Buckingham. Authorities say Tackett was driving westbound on KY 122 when he lost control of his vehicle, driving off the roadway and into a storage trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.

 

Fatal Accident In Letcher County

KSP report 49 year old Jimmy Mullins of Thornton died from a single vehicle accident which occurred Wednesday morning on Highway 1862 in the Mayking community of Letcher County.

Freezing Rain Falling Throughout Eastern Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police in Pikeville told us roads are slick in Magoffin and Floyd Counties due to freezing rain.

Two accidents occurred in Floyd County.

Two road closings. U.S. 23 from Paintsville to the Lawrence County line and all bridges that lead into downtown Paintsville.

 

Freezing Precipitation Causing Travel Headaches In Johnson County

Sarah George with Highway District 12 says U.S. 23 from John Gray in Paintsville to the Lawrence County line is closed. Also all bridges that lead into downtown Paintsville are closed due to freezing precipitation. A freezing rain advisory is in effect for our listening area until 10p.m.

 

Southern West Virginia Counties Reporting Jobless Rates Below State Average.

Mingo and surrounding counties apparently aren't seeing the signs of an economic slow down thus far. West Virginia’s unemployment rate of 4.2 percent is over two percent less than the rest of the country.

Mingo County’s November jobless rate is 4 percent, Logan 3.7 percent, Lincoln 4.1 percent, Wyoming 3.8 percent, Mercer 3.9 percent, Boone 3.1 percent, Wayne 4.1 percent. McDowell County had a jobless rate of 5.3 percent.

Pocahontas had the highest at 8.5 percent. Monongalia the lowest at 2.5 percent.

The U. S. Postal Service reminds you priority mail gets delivered in about 2 to 3 days, but customers can still use the more expensive Express Mail option. This service is available Tuesday and Wednesday, and can be used to mail packages, cards and other items...which should arrive by Christmas.
