Federal Grants To Fight Crime

KENTUCKY...

Dozens of federal grants totaling more than $5.5 million have been awarded to Kentucky programs that serve victims of crimes.

The recipients include domestic violence shelters, children's advocacy centers and rape crisis centers.

Gov. Steve Beshear announced the 62 awards Thursday, made through the federal Victims of Crime Act. The act uses funds from criminal fines, forfeitures and assessments to support victim services instead of using tax dollars.

The Exploited Children's Help Organization received a $107,100 grant. The group provides crisis intervention, support and referrals for child victims and their families.
Christian Appalachian received $83,000 to allow it to provide emergency services to victims of domestic violence and marital rape in Appalachia.
