Abducted Girl Fakes Illness To Set Up Rescue

KENTUCKY...
A South Carolina girl abducted by her father faked illness to set up her rescue in Kentucky.

Donnie Lee Shelton brought his daughter to the emergency room of Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin early Tuesday. Eight-year-old Elysha was complaining of abdominal pains.

A nurse became suspicious when the girl wouldn't make eye contact with her. Staff checked the Amber Alert website, then called police.

Hospital official John Henson says the girl faked being sick after she saw a hospital sign.

The 46-year-old Shelton was arrested and taken to the Whitley County Jail.

Interviewed by the station at the jail, Shelton said he took his daughter in Pickens County, S.C., because he felt she was in danger.

The girl was reunited with her mother.
