Man Charged With Child Abuse Causing Death
WEST VIRGINIA....
Larry Allen Hayes Jr., 21, lived with his girlfriend, Meredith Bush, and her 18 month old daughter, Rebecca McDaniel in South Charleston. Bush told police that last Thursday, Hayes dropped her off at her job at IHOP at Trace Fork, and, while on his way to pick her up that afternoon, he called and told her something was wrong with her daughter. When Hayes arrived with the girl, Bush saw she wasn't breathing and started CPR. Friday, police were called to CAMC Women and Children's Hospital where the child was on a ventilator and had no brain activity. She died Sunday. An autopsy showed the girl died from "multiple blunt force impacts to her head which caused multiple subdural hematomas. Friday, Hayes told police he was the only person with Rebecca during the day on Thursday, and nothing happened that could have caused her injuries. When interviewed Monday, Hayes said he had fallen down the stairs while carrying the girl and landed on top of her, but he had not spoken up before because he was scared. Hayes was charged with child abuse causing death and placed under $500,000 cash-only bond.
