State DEP Creates Guidelines For Water Quality Permits


WEST VIRGINIA....
The state Department of Environmental Protection says it has created a document that lists conditions permit writers will follow when considering water quality permits for surface coal mines. The document focuses on the potential harm a mining project could have on a stream's water quality and aquatic life. DEP Secretary Randy Huffman says he hopes the federal Environmental Protection Agency will give deference to the state now that it has guidelines.
