MSHA Seeking To Have Massey Miner Permanently Rehired
WEST VIRGINIA....
MSHA is asking that Massey Energy be required to permanently rehire Ricky Lee Campbell, a miner who claims he was fired in late April for voicing concerns while talking to reporters about safety issues at Massey's Upper Big Branch Mine, where 29 miners were killed in an explosion on April 5th. Campbell was working at another Massey mine the day of the explosion, but had briefly worked at UBB. Wednesday's action marks the second time MSHA has come to Campbell's defense. In June, an administrative law judge ordered Massey to temporarily rehire Campbell after MSHA filed a complaint, but Massey says Campbell's firing was not related to his comments over safety concerns.
