Former WV Lawmaker Indicted In Federal Probe
KENTUCKY/WEST VIRGINIA...
A federal grand jury has slimmed down the gambling case against a former West Virginia lawmaker and added one of his employees as a co-defendant.
The revised indictment against Joe C. Ferrell still alleges he ran an illegal gambling racket in both West Virginia and Kentucky. It also alleges the former Logan County delegate bribed a West Virginia Lottery investigator.
Ferrell's company, Southern Amusement, leases video lottery machines and is also a defendant. The latest indictment adds company employee Mark Anthony Cantrell to its main racketeering and illegal gambling counts. He's also accused of mail fraud.
The revised indictment handed up Tuesday has 11 fewer charges than the previous batch. Most were interstate racketeering counts against Ferrell
