College Credits To Transfer Easier
KENTUCKY...
A new bill is making it easier for thousands of college students to transfer credits.
School counselors say about 90 percent of students attending Western Kentucky University's Owensboro campus are transfer students. Many of them have had to retake courses when credits wouldn't transfer.
Now, students who transfer from Kentucky's technical colleges will get credit for courses they've already taken.
"Sometimes that presents a problem especially when four year colleges say well we don't recognize that course and you have to take it again or a similar course," said State Rep. Jim Glenn (D-Owensboro). "The four year will take courses from a community college and the number of courses needed to graduate dropped from 128 to 120."
The transfer bill goes into effect in 2012.
