Withdrawal Order Issued For Knott County Mine

Monday (today) the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration announced it had issued a withdrawal order to Double A Mining Inc. , banning production at its underground No. 4 mine in Knott County. Regulators say Double A had failed to pay a total of $313,820 in health and safety fines for more than 360 safety violations, and the operator of the mine hadn't paid a penalty payment since August 2004. This is the first time MSHA has shut down a mine over unpaid health and safety fines. Miners were ordered off the job last week.
