Corrections Officer Attacked By Inmates
Corrections officers are urging Governor Steve Beshear to negotiate a contract with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees to address safety concerns and staffing shortages they say exist in the state Department of Corrections. Robert Sharp, a corrections officer at the Kentucky State Reformatory at LaGrange, was released Wednesday (today) from Baptist Hospital Northeast after being jumped and beaten Monday in a stairwell. Sharp was the only corrections officer on duty in the dorm of 160 inmates when two inmates, 29 year old Clifford Taylor and 31 year old Shawn Thacker, allegedly attacked him. The inmates were charged with third-degree assault.
