Pike County Receives $ 3,520 For PRIDE Cleanup

Eastern Kentucky PRIDE has awarded $142,113 to communities across southern and eastern Kentucky for 2008 Spring Cleanup funds. Through the 2008 Spring Cleanup Awards, Pike County received $3,520.

The grant funds will be used solely for tipping fees to dispose of trash collected during the 2008 PRIDE Spring Cleanup set for April 5th – 19th. Spring Cleanup is a great way to prepare our beautiful region for the busy tourist season.

“Spring Cleanup is a great way to prepare our beautiful region for the busy tourist season,” said Karen Engle, PRIDE President and Chief Executive Officer. “I would like to encourage all citizens to take personal responsibility and volunteer for the 2008 PRIDE Spring Cleanup in your community.”

“Citizens play a vital role in the PRIDE campaign,” Engle continued. “Over the past 11 years, 239,095 PRIDE volunteers have volunteered to clean the waterways and roadways of southern and eastern Kentucky, collecting a total of 508,671 bags of trash.”

The campaign actually got underway Wednesday as work crews cleared debris from along side the highway in the Pounding Mill area.
