A Logan County Coal Miner Attempting To Be A Good Samaritan Dies.

A Logan County coal miner on his way to work Thursday morning died from head injuries he received while trying to be a good samaritan.

Ricky Collins of Logan was on his way to the Freeze Fork Surface Mine which is located at Ethel. When Collins came to the Stollings Underpass he noticed a 18 wheel rig stuck and blocking traffic. The 44 year-old got out of his vehicle and was guiding the driver of the rig on how to make a right turn, suddenly a piece of equipment broke loose from the rig and struck Collins in the head and face. The Logan County Sheriff’s Department says that the investigation concluded that the mishap was a freak accident and that the victim was trying to do a good deed.
