Kentucky Senate Committee Passes Emergency Contact Bill.

Kentuckians would be able to list emergency contact information when they get a new driver's license under a bill approved by the Senate Transportation Committee.

Senate Bill 182, sponsored by Sen. Tom Jensen, R-London, is designed to help authorities in an emergency when there is no way to know who should be contacted. The information would not be listed on the license itself, Jensen said, but would be available to those with access to other driver's license information.

Although circuit clerks would be required to ask for the information, Kentuckians could opt out of the database if they chose, Jensen said.

The bill now heads to the full Senate.
