Juror Bill Moves To Kentucky Senate.
Turning age 72 would be reason enough to get out of jury duty under legislation which passed the House by an 85-0 vote today.
House Bill 593, sponsored by Rep. Eddie Ballard, D-Madisonville, would allow anyone who has reached age 72 to have their names removed from a list of prospective jurors. Once the name has been removed, the individual would be automatically exempted from jury duty.
"It (will no longer) be mandatory that they serve on a jury," Ballad said, when explaining the bill before the House vote. "They can, if they want to, they can volunteer to do it, but it just says they can opt out if they want to after they've reached 72."
The bill now goes to the Senate for its consideration.
