Kentucky Secretary of State Purchases 57 Paper Ballot Machines For Pike County.
The Pike County Fiscal Court voted to accept 57 paper ballot machines from the Secretary of State Office.
The cost of the machines is $4,500 a piece.
The new machines won't be utilized until 2010.
A spokesperson for the county clerk's office says that Congress wants a paper trail due to election night fiascos in Florida and Ohio.
A person will go into their precinct, get a paper ballot, circle in the candidate they would like to choose, and then go to the machine and place there ballot inside, the vote then goes to the bottom where it remains locked.
Handicap voters will continue to use the same machines.
