Pike County State Senator Co-Sponsors Bill That Would Provide Funding To Drug Taskforce.
Kentucky State Senator Ray S. Jones ( D – Pikeville ) says he will co-sponsor a piece of legislation that would assist Operation UNITE with additional funding.
Senate Bill 97 would allocate $ 450,000 of coal severance tax money to further fund the eastern Kentucky drug taskforce. The announcement came during a press conference held in London.
Recently the drug taskforce laid off 12 employees.
Congressman Hal Rogers says Congress did not earmark any money for the program for this fiscal year and the government only allocated $ 4.1 million for next year.
State Senators Robert Stivers ( R-Manchester) and Tom Jensen ( R-London), the other co-sponsors of the bill, say they are confident the bill will pass the General Assembly.
