Federal Judge Delays Sentencing Hearing for Two Mingo County Residents
Mingo County residents George Lecco and Valerie Friend , convicted and recommended to die by a federal grand jury, won’t be sentenced until the U.S. Supreme Court decides whether lethal injection is constitutional.
Lecco and Friend were found guilty in the gruesome murder of drug informant Carla Collins. Prosecutors say that Lecco ordered Friend to carry out the execution in order to protect his cocaine ring in May of 2005.
Federal prosecutors want the duo put to death in Indiana. West Virginia doesn’t have capital punishment.
