WV Delegate to Introduce Legislation on Attracting Teachers to West Virginia.
A lawmaker in the West Virginia House of Delegates plans to introduce a bill next month that attracts more teachers to the Mountain State.
Delegate Larry Williams wants to introduce a bill that would exempt qualifying teachers from paying state income taxes when they work in areas of critical need. The state needs more teachers in math, science, world languages and special education.
Despite recent pay raises by the legislature, West Virginia has a tough time keeping qualified teachers inside its borders because educators can receive higher pay from neighboring states.
State Superintendent of Schools Steve Paine says that he supports the idea.
