CAM Mining Hands Out $ 20,000 in Donations Wednesday.
CAM Mining donated $ 10,000 a piece to the Pike County Domestic Violence Shelter Board and to the Pike County School System and Pike County Health Department’s joint partnership “ The Take Ten Program”.
Donna Dempsey Director for the Pike County Domestic Violence Shelter Center says that the money will be used for operating expenses. The center currently has enough money to operate for the next eight or nine months. The center’s expenses run on the average of $14,000 per month. CAM Mining CEO, Nick Glancy says that this is the second year the company has been able to help the center and that the facility assists several victims per year.
The other $ 10,000 donation will go to purchase the Take Ten Program for both private and public schools’ in Pike County.
Patrice Beverly with the Pike County Health Department says that a recent study conducted indicated that the obesity rate among children is high. The program will be implanted for children in grades K-5. It will establish ten minutes of physical activity in every class. Beverly says that $ 15,000 more dollars is needed to establish the program in every school.
Nick Glancy, CEO of CAM says that this program is about people learning healthier habits at a younger age.
The donation by CAM will allow the school system and health department to begin the program in January in a few schools.
