WV Ranks 22nd in Asthma Cases. Cost to Treat Disease Skyrockets
Asthma cases in West Virginia have declined over the last six years according to the state Bureau of Public Health.
West Virginia currently has the 22nd highest rate in the country. A new study shows that 8.6 percent or 123,000 adults have asthma.
Six years ago WV had the 5th highest rate in the nation.
However the number of people being hospitalized due to the disease have gone from 2,450 a decade ago to more than 3,000 last year.
The cost of treating asthma patients has gone from 10.3 million to 23.2 million dollars.
