Martin County Receives $2.5 Million Dollar Grant.

The Kentucky Sobriety Treatment and Recovery Team ( K-START) awarded the Martin County Protection and Permanency a grant in the amount of $2.5 million dollars Thursday during a ceremony that was held at the Roy F. Collier Community Center.

K-START pairs child protective services workers with family mentors, providing a substance abuse treatment plan designed for rural areas and sober parenting support groups.

The family mentor is a key component of the program. The mentors are carefully screened through a lengthy, non-traditional process that includes an orientation, completion of an initial questionnaire and two rounds of interviews.

The funding will allow the agency to assist 36 families in Martin County annually and 180 total families that will include non-substance abusing family members and children.
