Highway Officials Are Hoping that Final Segment of US 119 Can Open by Christmas

Motorists are getting anxious about when they will be able to drive the final segment of US 119 that would link the continuous four – lane highway from Pikeville to Charleston, WV.

Contractors are continuing to work on the final 1.7 miles that goes from Bent Branch to Scott Fork. That segment is being constructed at a cost of $ 33.3 million dollars.

Sarah George, spokeswoman with Highway District 12 says that they are hoping that the roadway will be ready for vehicular traffic by Christmas.
George says that a lot of work remains to be done such as drainage, guardrail and seeding work. George says that since it is a federal highway they are a number of things that must be completed before the road can be opened to traffic
