Breaking and Entering and Gas Leak Occurred at Lenore K-8

The double whammy occurred Monday morning at Lenore K-8. When teachers and students arrived for school they found that their school was the victim of vandals. Principal Sabrina Runyon told us that the school was broken into. Runyon told us that the school received minor damage. Windows were broken out in the principal’s office and a classroom. The culprits evidently had a sweet tooth as candy was stolen from several classrooms. The school was cleaned up and students returned to the classrooms by 9:30am.

Runyon told us that at 10:45 am a gas leak was found outside of the school. Students were then dismissed. Runyon said that there was no danger. The reason that they turned out school was because they couldn’t cook lunch. Runyon said that the gas leak was confined to the outside of the school.

Runyon also told us that the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department is working on several leads concerning the breaking and entering.

The school has an enrollment of 582 students.
