Area Businesses Partner with WestCare to Host Food and Paper Drive for Homeless/ Emergency Shelter.

Nearly 100 meals are served to men, women and children each day at the Westcare Emergency/Homeless Shelter in Pike County, so donated canned goods from area residents will make a difference to the facility’s food program.
“ The citizens of Pike County have been very generous in the past with their contributions of food and paper products. Our supplies are getting low and with winter just around the corner more individuals will be in need of our services,” stated Jennifer Noland, Regional Vice President for WestCare Kentucky. “ We are grateful that local businesses in the community have agreed to let us place a donation box in their stores.”

From Friday November 2 – Monday November 19th, WestCare Kentucky will partner with local businesses for a paper and canned food drive. Residents can drop-off their donations at the following locations throughout Pike County: Y.M.C.A.; Big Lot’s, Food City located at Cassidy Blvd and South Mayo Trail, Magic Mart, Velocity Market located on Hambley Blvd, and the Expo Center.

The East Kentucky Miner’s organization will kick – off the event at 1:00pm, Thursday, November 1 at the Expo Center.

Other items needed at the Shelter include paper towels, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, soap, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, cleaning products, heavy duty trash bags, and baby diapers.

Westcare Kentucky, a non-profit charitable organization, oversees the operations of the 30 bed facility, which is located on Redale Road. The shelter provided temporary housing and meals to over 200 men, women and children in need last year.
If your business or organization is interested in participating in the food and paper drive please contact Sharon Yates at 606-432-9442.
