National Weather Service Ruled Out Tornado.

The National Weather Service out of Jackson told EKB that winds were clocked at 60mph throughout eastern Kentucky. Wind damage has been reported throughout our listening area. The NWS based out of Jackson says that no tornado touched down. The wind that caused the damage came from an outflow boundary. Terminolgy for an outflow, is when a burst of wind pushes ahead of a strong thunderstorm. our area received the winds from the storm not the rain.

Widespread damage has been reported throughout Pike. Martin, Floyd and Johnson Counties.
Downed power lines and trees have been reported. The Pikeville YMCA was forced to shut down an hour early. A piece of metal roofing from a section of the building blew off. A small section bent over and crashed through the roof. No one was injured. The business will be open tomorrow. The high winds hit the area shortly before 9pm.
