Ronald “ Sonny “ Fentress will serve as interim superintendent of Floyd County’s School System. Fentress will serve as superintendent from Sept 1st to Dec 31st. Fentress is a retired superintendent of the Anderson County School System. Fentress has worked in education for 42 years. During his term as superintendent, the school district consistently performed in the top 15 to 20 percent in test scores among other districts statewide. Fentress was named Superintendent of the Year in 2005. Fentress will take the place of Dr. Paul Fanning. Fanning has accepted a new job in Georgia. Fanning has served as superintendent for the past eight years. Earlier this year the Floyd County Board of Education renewed Fanning's contract for four more years.
