Members Of Congress Want Review Of EPA Denial
KENTUCKY...
Nine members of Congress want President Barack Obama to review the federal government's handling of a permit for a mountaintop removal mine.
West Virginia Reps. Nick J. Rahall, Alan Mollohan and Shelley Moore Capito, Virginia Reps. Bob Goodlatte and Rick Boucher, and Kentucky Reps. Ed Whitfield, Hal Rogers, Brett Guthrie and Geoff Davis made the request in a letter released Friday.
The Environmental Protection Agency plans to veto a Clean Water Act permit issued by the Army Corps of Engineers for Arch Coal's Spruce No. 1 mine in southern West Virginia. The mine is among several EPA is reviewing.
The lawmakers say the EPA's actions will have a chilling effect on Appalachia's coal industry.
