U.S. Postal Service Announces Consolidation

WEST VIRGINIA....
U.S. Postal Service Spokeswoman Cathy Yarosky said Tuesday evening that operations at the Beckley and Huntington post offices will be consolidated into the Charleston processing and distributions center.
Yarosky said she had no details on the number of affected jobs, but a dramatic decline in mail volume has left the Postal Service with excess equipment and facilities. Representative Nick Rahall called the consolidation a "meat axe" to good mail delivery in southern West Virginia.

The Postal Service also is looking at consolidating mail processing operations in Martinsburg with a processing center in Maryland. That study could be completed by next spring.
